Navajo Indian Mission
This a youth-oriented trip which takes place each July. Asbury youth and adults journey by bus to the Navajo Nation in Arizona for a work camp ministry. Every participate is assigned to a work team of six people, one of which is an adult supervisor to work on dwellings for low income Native Americans. The Asbury Youth work on money raising projects throughout the year to help fund the trip.
The teams will do home repair projects at the home of elderly, low income Navajo people. The Navajo's are fascinating people. They are friendly, warm and will welcome you with their gentle words and bright smiles and will pitch in and help with the work.
Typical kinds of work includes: painting, stucco work, roof repairs, storm windows, fence and animal pen repair, etc. Only minimal skills are needed. Attitudes of friendliness and cooperation are much more important than any work related skills
Why work camping? Our Christian faith calls us to be doers of God's word and not just hearers. This is a great opportunity to put your faith to work in reaching out with a helping hand to those who have little. Christ has called us to do the work of God's kingdom in feeding the hungry and caring for those in need.
