Asbury United Methodist Youth Purpose Statement

Our student ministry exists to REACH out to others, to CONNECT students to Christ, to help them GROW in their faith, and to challenge and DISCOVER new possibilities as we HONOR our awesome God.

The youth program at Asbury United Methodist Church is designed to provide a safe, spiritual, and exciting enviroment for youth in 7th through 12th grades.

Our church provides small groups, activities, and events to give youth a chance to learn, grow, strengthen their faith, and make lifelong friendships along the way!

At Asbury, we offer a variety of programs just for YOU-th! We have two weekly programs on Sunday & Wednesday nights. Each Sunday morning, our committed teachers lead Jr. & Sr. High Sunday School. In addition to our weekly programming, we offer retreats, breakaways, and exciting Mission and Mystery trips! We also rotate a Ski Trip and New York Trip. We offer a special summer calendar with poolside Bible Studies and our P.I.G.S. service group. We also have opportunities for teens interested in leading worship through our Worship Team program and Youth Handbell Choir. Check out calendar for more info on these exciting activities for young people!

The Asbury Youth Staff consists of Meghan Hochstetler-Youth Director; Jessica Pfanner-intern, MIchael Jarboe-intern. We have a great time working & leading together! If you would like more info. on youth happenings, contact Meghan at the church office at 318-746-5349.

United Methodist Youth Fellowship (UMYF)

United Methodist Youth Fellowship takes place each Sunday in "The Lodge" youth space at Asbury United Methodist Church! Every Sunday night from 5-6:30pm we gather for fellowship. In this time together, we have programs that relate to youth. We meet to play, pray, discuss and learn from each other! UMYF is a casual time to just be yourself---a weekly time to be here and near each other and draw closer to Christ.

Mission and Service

The Youth Department is committed to reaching out in service to others. We have a year round mission program within our youth program. Our Youth Council Leadership Team sponsors mission events from raising $ for St. Jude's Children's Hospital to serving meals at Providence House.

navajo.jpgAsbury sent several groups to New Orleans for Hurricane Relief mission trips. The youth have coordinated two of the trips. The experience has been like no other. We are overwhelmed by the need and are glad that we can make a small contribution in the lives that we touch.

We also participate in local mission events and service projects. In the summer, we have a Sr. High service team named "P.I.G.S." (Participating In God's Service) that volunteer with children in local hospitals. We have a Sr. High Navajo Mission/Adventure Trip to Arizona (click photo to left) in June. Jr. & Sr. Highs can be a part of "Weekend of The Cross" each July. W.O.C. is a 4-day mission experience right here in Shreveport-Bossier.

Youth Prayer Ministry

Every Wednesday evening during “The Word” Youth Bible Study, our youth collect and distribute prayer cards within the group. Each prayer card has a name of a church family member printed on it. Each youth goes around the group circle, reads aloud the name of the person they are praying for that week and the group then closes with a group prayer for all of those names that will be prayed over until the youth meet again. The prayer cards are then mailed to that person. This ministry has been in place since 2005 and plans are to continue for many years as a prayer outreach from our youth.
